Where 5 years makes you strong as 10 years

Bradley Suira, Me and Swarm Team at Devcon Bogota 2022

You usually asume that to be a pro in your career, you might 10 years of training doing the exact thing over and over until you become profficient.

What if I told you that you only need 5 years in blockchain if you started at the right moment.

I remember when I got my first interview with DecentBet back in February 2017. A friend, Adrian Scott, called me to see if I was interested in a blockchain job.

By then I already being two years without stable job, and the most cryptographic thing I had ever done was a FIDO v1 WebAuthn NodeJS application.

I accepted the job, given no one in Panama wanted to hire me. DecentBet Panama office was small, only Roberto Zubieta, which had if I remember 6 months ahead in the game, and then me.

An office in some 45th floor looking over Balboa Avenue in downtown Panama. Oh yeah, the good old ICO era.

Had to learn React. Had to relearn a lot of stuff. Very very scare of Solidity by all means. We were mentored by this guy called Dev, which is a long story but he is anon managed him later in the future to become quite wealthy.

So there were we, Roberto and Me, plus Adrian, doing blockchain in Panama with Ethereum. And eventually we switched to Vechain because of “Ethereum being slow”.

Eventually we had to grow the team, so I tried to get my buddy Bradley Suira join us. But Adrian had been travelling all around the world, so Bradley had to wait, and wait, and wait.

One day he called me to tell me he didn’t wanted to wait more. I told him wait a bit more. And then Adrian pass by the office and told me yeah hire him.

So, Roberto and Rogelio became, Roberto, Bradley and Rogelio aka DecentBet in Panama.

We moved to a new office in Calle 50, in the Towerbank building. It was awesome. Better than Balboa Avenue.

Then they fired Adrian and we got a couple of new bosses, which is another long story of my life (aka PAID Network) that I won’t delve in this issue.

One day we manage to do a gathering of newbees, and in one of those meetings we met with a long time pal that I didn’t knew was into blockchain: Luis Sanchez.

And so, eventually we demised of DecentBet by December 2019, and then COVID-19 era, Luis and I and others including Bradley, like two years ago we also created the very first and still existing company related to “digital signatures” in Panama. What is called Industrias de Firmas Electronicas SA.

And that’s my friend, how Roberto, Luis, Bradley and Rogelio made history in the blockchain community in la Republica de Panama

Yours truly

Rogelio
